Gender:
- The main character in my preliminary task is female. Women are stereotypically portrayed as weaker than men, and this is shown as she is the target of the stalker. It may also be argued that women are more smart than men and this is portrayed by her finding out what is wrong and solving the problem. Age: - Age will be conveyed well in my preliminary task because the actors i have used are the same ages of he characters i am trying to portray and i believe that this will be key to portraying the weakness of the innocent teenagers. Ethnicity: - White female. She is portrayed as stereo typically weak and innocent as if she has done nothing wrong. Also has a posh accent which portrays that she is upper class. Sexuality: - It is not specified whether she is homosexual or heterosexual as it not necessary. Stereotypically, the character might be heterosexual as she is talking got a boy but no 'love' is hinted at or portrayed. Class and Status: - It is suggested that she has a higher status in society as she has a nice house and is privileged enough to have a high end laptop and phone. Also her accent contributes to her being upper class because she seems quite posh rather than the boy being upper middle class. This could possibly be the reason for her being targeted. Regional Identity: - The character is a typical school girl. Although her school and year group is not stated, it is insinuated that she goes to school and lives in a nice house. Disability/ability: - No types of disability are portrayed so the audience do not know anything about this subject. For my preliminary task I decided that I wanted to think of a storyline that would be original, and that I would be happy with once I had edited all the footage together.
Two friends are talking over Skype, one boy and one girl. The girls room is quite messy very relaxed and has personal traits that carry out throughout the room, including posters, pictures of her and her relations. The boys room is neat but still portrays his personal characteristics. A post appears as the boy is scrolling through Facebook, it talks about a new youtube channel launched today and has been live streaming for 6 hours. It has been streaming different people in the rooms like a fly on the wall. The channel name appears as "Time to play". They ignore the post and continue talking. The girl then gets a tweet about the youtube channel, it says "@'HER-NAME' Is that you on the stream !!!!!" She sees this and then decides to check out the channel. As they both go on the channel they are surprised to see her room, at first she thinks that its just a image, but as it continues they can see her moving and talking, she panics whilst looking nervous. As the boy tries to help her find the camera he continues talking to her as the youtube channel is tracking the whole thing. She finally finds the camera and blocks the lens. The stream goes black but then continues using another angle in her room, she takes longer too find this one as it is heavily hidden within her room. Eventually she finds the camera , throws on the floor and stamps on it breaking the stream. Finally the camera switches to another room of someone else. Suddenly a message pops up on the screen "you shouldn't have done that". She replies multiple times in a nervous panic, but there is no reply. She starts panicking even more and so does here friend who has also received the message. They talk again in there nervous state, and then suddenly both there lights flash simultaneously 3 times. They are suddenly sparked into a flustered state, and another message pops up from the same private number, "TIME TO PLAY". I believe using this storyline will help me use an array of camera skills, shot types and movements. Also i can use lighting efficiently and effectively as well as implimenting my continuity editing rules. I also took inspiration from the film 'unfriended' so can also use camera shots and editing skills from that. I will use a simple location of two different bedrooms in two different houses that can portray individual traits of my characters. The rooms will have their own personal touch and will have things that represent teenagers and maybe start with music playing very loud in one of the rooms. Things like, pictures, posters, and clothing will link to the characters and will have pictures of the characters around the room to make it seem like that is actually where they live. Both will have laptops weather one is on a desk and one is laying on a bed on the laptop.
I have decided to go against my initial ideas and go my idea for a 3 minute short film.
My idea is to have two people talking over Skype and suddenly one of them sees a post on Facebook about this new youtube live stream that is creepily watching people in their rooms as a fly on the wall. The other then sees it on twitter then gets another message from someone else about it. They both talk about it and decide too see what it is, as the go on the channel they continue to talk and too their surprise they can see one of the girls from the corner of their room. They do not realise this right away and then it suddenly dawns upon them. They get very creeped out and start panicking looking for the camera in the room. As they look for a while, she then finds it. After blocking out the camera it switches to another angle and she then finds the other but its harder to find. Then she throws it on the floor and stamps on it. Suddenly a message pops up on here screen. "you shouldn't have done that!" As she replies multiple times there is no reply, she starts panicking and so does the friend. As the end of the my short film approaches, the light flash in the room of the boy that has not been on camera flashes twice then stays still. Then they get another message from the same number, "time to play". My first initial idea was to use a skateboarder skating around London or at a skatepark depending on the storyline i choose. 1) Skater takes a hard slam and then begins to look in pain, a bystander or another skater comes over to him to check if he is okay and they talk, then the skater thanks him and the other person has to rush away. 2)Skater lands a very impressive trick and other skater comes up and appreciates the trick and they talk about skating and then go separate ways or go skate together. My final idea is for a short film, however i have not talked about this in my focus group as i had not contemplated this idea before. 3) My 3rd idea is about two friends that talk on Skype and are being watched by people via a youtube lifestream. They only release via Facebook and twitter and also get a message from a unknown number that sparks panic. My second idea involves a couple meeting at a airport. Firstly shows a man waiting around at an airport looking around and looking at his watch but is very excited, then shows a person coming through arrivals and both faces light up and smile. They share an embrace and talk about how much they miss each other, then they walk off together and the camera follows until a certain point and go off home together. |
